Board of Assessment Appeals

The North Canaan Board of Assessment Appeals (BAA) is established pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes §12-111 and related statutes. The Board is responsible for hearing and determining appeals of property assessments made by the Assessor.

Property owners who believe their assessment is excessive or not in accordance with law may file a written appeal with the Board within the statutory filing period. Appeals must be submitted on the prescribed form by the deadline established under CGS §12-111.

In accordance with CGS §12-113, the Board may reduce, increase, or sustain the assessment based on the evidence presented. Decisions of the Board may be appealed to the Superior Court pursuant to CGS §12-117a.

The Board acts independently of the Assessor and conducts hearings in a fair and impartial manner in accordance with Connecticut law.
