Town of North Canaan – Town Clerk’s Office



The Town of North Canaan is an official DEEP Sportsmen Licensing Agent, offering in-person licensing for Connecticut hunting and fishing.



Residents may obtain:


  • Hunting Licenses


  • Fishing Licenses


  • Combination Licenses


  • Tags, Stamps & Permits (including deer and turkey)

🧾 License Types Available

We issue the following through DEEP’s Outdoor Licensing System:



Fishing


  • Inland Fishing


  • Marine Fishing


  • All-Waters Fishing


  • Youth & Senior Fishing


  • Trout/Salmon Stamp (if required)



Hunting


  • Firearms Hunting


  • Bowhunting


  • Small Game


  • Turkey


  • Combo Hunting & Fishing


  • Deer/Turkey Permits (select areas & seasons)


  • HIP & Duck Stamps (State)


Note: Federal Duck Stamps are issued separately through USPS or designated vendors.


🪪 Resident vs. Non-Resident

Resident licenses
require proof of Connecticut residency such as:


  • CT Driver’s License or Non-Driver ID


  • CT Vehicle Registration


  • Military orders with CT duty station


  • Voter Registration Card



Non-Residents
may also purchase licenses with appropriate non-resident fees.


🎯 Hunter Education Requirement

To purchase a Connecticut hunting license for the first time, individuals must present a valid CT Hunter Safety Certificate for:


  • Firearms


  • Bowhunting


  • or Equivalent course from another state



Replacement certificates can be obtained through DEEP.


📅 Season Dates

Hunting and migratory seasons are established annually by CT DEEP and vary by species and zone.

💳 Fees

License and permit fees are set by the State of Connecticut.
 A $1 municipal agent fee included in in-person transactions.

Yes, anyone 16+ must hold a valid fishing license unless an exemption applies.
