The Town of North Canaan conducts many public meetings in a hybrid format, allowing the public to attend in person at Town Hall or remotely via Zoom. This page provides general information on how to join meetings by Zoom and where to find the correct access link for each meeting.
1. In-Person vs. Zoom Attendance
Members of the public may usually attend in one of two ways:
- In Person:
North Canaan Town Hall

- Remotely via Zoom:
Use the Zoom link and/or dial-in phone number listed on the meeting agenda or on this page.
Unless otherwise noted on the agenda, meetings are open to the public during the public portions of the meeting.

- These Zoom links apply to regular meetings only.
- Special meetings may have different Zoom links — always check the posted agenda.
- The public may attend in person or via Zoom, except for executive session portions which are not public.
If a board does not use a recurring link, the Zoom information will be provided on the specific meeting agenda.
3. Special Meetings & Updated Links
For special meetings or meetings that use a different Zoom link than usual, the correct Zoom information will always be listed on the posted meeting agenda.
- Agendas are posted on the Town website and at Town Hall.
- Please always check the latest agenda to confirm the date, time, and Zoom access information.
4. How to Join a Zoom Meeting
From a computer, tablet, or smartphone:
- Click the Zoom link provided.
- If prompted, allow Zoom to open or join from your browser.
- Enter the Meeting ID and passcode (if listed) from the agenda.
- Enter your name so the board can identify you.
By phone (audio only):
- Call the dial-in number listed.
- Enter the Meeting ID when prompted.
- Enter the passcode if one is listed.
5. Public Participation & Etiquette
To help meetings run smoothly:
*Please mute your microphone when you are not speaking.
- Use the “Raise Hand” feature or follow the Chair’s instructions if you wish to speak.
- Public comment will be taken at the time and in the manner designated by the Chair.
- Disruptive behavior may result in removal from the Zoom meeting.
Hybrid and remote meetings are conducted in accordance with the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act.
6. Technical Help
If you have difficulty joining a meeting by Zoom, please:
- First, check that you are using the correct link and date from the agenda.
- If you still cannot connect, contact the Town Clerk’s Office during regular business hours:
- Tuesday-Thursday 8:30am-3:30pm (Open for Lunch)
